Welcome to Basic Master Tutorial. And today we will be
telling you all the ways you can remove background in Adobe Photoshop. So first
we have a polygonal lasso tool. This tool is very easy. It simply makes a
selection around your photo with pointers. So, you will be making anchor points
as you select around the image. By the end of it, you will have selected all
the parts of the image you want to remove and delete.
We have an image of a flower here and we want to keep just
the flower and remove the background. So, we'll be starting with a polygonal
lasso tool and select the surface of the flower very carefully. We'll select
each part carefully with the help of pointers and as soon as the flower is
about to be completely selected. We have to make sure that our last pointer
matched the first pointer so that the entire flower is selected.
Once the flower is selected, we’ll
right-click on the selection and select "Select Inverse" Select
Inverse means we are selecting everything besides the flower So the entire
background has been selected Now we'll simply press "Delete" And the
background is now removed. The second method is easier and a lot like the polygonal
lasso tool That's "Magnetic lasso tool" Magnetic lasso tool makes
your task easier. You don't have to be too cautious about the accuracy of
pointers as you move along Instead, it selects the surface on its own.
But for that to work, it's important that your image is sharp.
And the edges are defined If the edges aren't sharp enough. And blurred Then
it's quite possible that this tool selects part of the background as well So here
we have a very solid shaped image of a building We'll select it using Magnetic
Lasso Tool.
And as you can see, once I started selection, it's detecting
and selecting the edges on its own You should still keep the mouse pointer
close to the edges. And doesn't go inside the surface Because then it will
select the part of the image we don't want to remove.
Once you have made the selection, we’ll use the same trick
of doing Select Inverse. Or you can select the building from 3 sides. And
instead of going under the building and closing the selection Pass the
selection from under and around the background So now the entire background is
selected So now we'll press delete.
And the background is removed the third method is using
"Magic Wand" And is good for those images Where you have one color
as a solid background. Because a magic wand basically selects a color If we click
on one part of it will select that color If we have more than one color in the background,
we'll have to use that tool a lot. But if we have one solid color then the Magic
wand tool is very effective because then it can remove the entire background
very quickly.
You have to make sure that the background and image color are different or at least the boundary of the image is different from the background so that the magic wand can differentiate between background and image to make Magic wand more effective it is important that the Tolerance level is as low as reasonably possible.
By tolerance level, we mean what amount of variation of shade in a single color is acceptable If the tolerance is too high it will mix up the shades and select more than we want which will not give us the required result. But if the tolerance is too low, we'll have to work on it a lot more by selecting tiny portions at a time So this is where you do trial and error to find out which tolerance level works best with your image This is the tolerance level, we're going with which is suitable for this image You can decide which tolerance levels suit your image and its background the best.
The fourth option is the Quick Selection tool This is a very
effective and quick tool We will demonstrate by using this same image. Here we
add to the selection with each click. And it will select the similar parts
accordingly So now the entire image is select pretty quickly We'll do Select
Inverse Press delete and our background are removed. Next, we'll discuss Object
Selection Tool It is present in recent versions of Photoshop not in the older
ones. We'll discuss it in more detail when we will cover it in tools.
But we'll explain here that as long as you have an object
that's very clearly defined with a background that's clearly separate from the image, then you'll select Object selection tool then click Select Subject It
will then select the entire object You can Refine Edges if you feel like it. But
here the object is almost perfectly selected. So, we'll Select Inverse And
delete the background.
Lastly, we will discuss the background eraser tool. And it is
also a very effective tool with lots of options. We'll learn about it in detail
later but here we'll give you a demonstration. We have selected this size and the hardness of the brush here. And now we'll duplicate this layer by using Ctrl+J Or
right-click on it and select Duplicate Layer Then we'll use an adjustment layer
of solid color and choose black color We'll move this layer of solid color
between these two layers.
We'll work on the top layer because we want our original
image to remain unchanged in case, we want to restore something as we click on
the background, the eraser will remove it without affecting the flower we want
to keep It is a very useful tool with some limitations which we'll discuss later
This makes our task really easy. Once we have a solid color in the background which
is different from that of your object then you can easily remove the background
by using the magic wand tool
